Exploring the Silent World of Books: Why Don't They Have Soundtracks?

So, true story, I love to read. All genres, fiction and non. But one thing I especially love with fiction (and historical fiction) books is to put on ambient music to help boost the mood. Nothing is worse than to be really into a book and then the song you're vibing with doesn't fit the mood for what you're reading. Which really got me to thinking...why don't books have a soundtrack?

Like it seems like such an obvious thing to combine. Written word and music combined in order to emphasize the emotions each chapter is supposed to invoke.

Colleen Hoover (huge fan BTW), came the closest with her book that had an actual soundtrack made for it for her novel Maybe Someday.

So, with the help of my very talented, and music loving brother, Nate. We are collaborating on Seraphine: The Chapterscore. A musical journey through Sera's story, that will be available on Spotify.

I know what you're thinking though...how does a chapterscore work? Right? The idea or premise behind it is that when you start reading a new chapter you hit play on the next song.

Slow reader?

Replay the song for that chapter until you move on to the next. Each song is hand selected to "vibe" with the chapter it coincides with. They're also by incredible underground artists and from movie soundtracks at are obscure. For many people they will be completely new to listen to.

I came up with the idea of a book "soundtrack" almost a decade ago. Little did I know that in 10 years companies like Spotify and Pandora would make it so easy to find, create, and share playlists so easily.

Regardless of if you read Sera with a soundtrack or not, I hope some of you can enjoy the thought and love that went into curating a sound that represents the mood of my first novel!

Special thanks to brosef, Nate for bringing it all to life for me too! Love you dude.

Can't wait to share it with you guys!
